Why Astrology Works: A Deeper Look into the Connection Between the Heavens and Earth

Astrology is based on the observation of correlations between celestial events and earthly occurrences. It compares planetary cycles to those found in nature, psychology, and societies. Does this mean that the planets have a direct influence on life on Earth? Not necessarily.

The mere fact that certain celestial and terrestrial events coincide in time does not imply a causal relationship between them. However, the absence of such a connection does not mean that comparisons between the heavens and Earth are meaningless. Since the geometrically uncomplicated movement of the planets across the sky can easily describe the cyclical nature of events in human life and nature, why not use the sky to track the passage of time on Earth? This is precisely the principle behind clocks and calendars, and even our own biological circadian rhythm.

Astrology goes a step further and recognizes that there are more cycles than just the day or the year. The phases of the moon affect energy levels and mental states, and they also influence hormones. Teenagers going through a period of hormonal upheaval often have trouble falling asleep during a full moon. Maternity wards are busier at new and full moons, and psychiatric hospital patients are more restless when the moon is full.

There are life-long cycles (Uranus) that can be clearly observed during midlife or quarter-life crises; cycles that divide life into distinct chapters (Saturn), such as youth, adulthood, and old age; and even more horoscope-dependent cycles of abundance (Jupiter) or milestones in relationships (the relationship between the Sun and Venus).

This raises the question of how a birth chart works. Why should a single point in time marking our beginning have a decisive influence on the course of our entire lives?

Again, it's difficult to talk about cause and effect here, but correlations do emerge. The position of a given planet in the sky at the moment of our birth marks that area of the sky as associated with the theme of that planet, and this imprint remains unchanged for the entire life of the individual. Whenever any planet touches this specific point in the sky, the themes associated with the natal planet, the one that was there at the time of our birth, are activated.

For example, on our birthdays, we are more confident and energetic, even if we are not aware of it, and as a result, others are nicer to us, even if they don't know it's our birthday. Or on the day when the moon returns to the position of the natal moon, we are calmer, it is easier for us to find comfort, it is like our own private new moon.

Perhaps there is a deeper mechanism or principle that underlies both the cyclical nature of the planets and our own lives. Perhaps there is a reason why heaven and earth resonate so clearly. For the time being, no rational explanation has been found for the observed coincidences, so it can be said that astrology cannot be logically explained, but it is easy to experience that it does work. It is enough to invest a little time to observe the cycles in one's life or in world history. One can also invest money and pay for an astrological consultation to learn a lot about one's own cycles quickly and easily, using the expert's many years of experience, and to see what interesting things can be read from the stars.
